The aquarium at RPI (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Troy, NY) is finally getting filled. I started the club at my college a little over a year ago. You can visit the website at The RPI Aquarium

Here are some new pics... the lights have been mounted, I went with two 400W 20K HQI in the middle and one 400W 65k on each end.

Here's the tank with just the 20k on:

Here's a view inside the hood:

The fans have all been mounted, there is also a fan on both sides of the stand and one in the vertical cabinet.

The drain and water line have been installed:

I placed the baffles and the refugium section in the 75g sump:

The tank is about half full as of today and very cloudy from the "live" sand I put in it. All comments and questions are welcomed!

the tank looks awesome! it is more exciting to know that the tank will be showcasing the beauty of reef to the students at your school. hopefully it will lead to more people falling in love with the reef and in turn we can do more to protect it. keep up the good work!

Hey tangirl,

Yeah there certainitly aren't many reefers around here!
icon_biggrin.gif
Let me know when you'll have some free time we'll get together and see eachothers tanks!

Joe,

Yeah it really will be nice to educate people about the reefs, I'm hoping to start bringing in elementary field trips to educate the kids... ya know... get to em while they're young

Tank looks good Nick. Wow all those fans that thing has to kick off some heat. If you want some rock with weed corals on it for the tank let me know. WW

Great job! The guts look like a first class set up.

Where are you going to put the finished tank? Hopefully somewhere the student body will see it.

Tan,

You're welcome to some sand, but I must warn you I have flatworms

WW,
Those fans are 105cfm if I remember correctly. Two are blowing in, two are blowing out. The air current is enough to create water motion

I will definitely take you up on the frag offers later on when the tank is ready. How is your tank doing? Still trying to control the bryopsis... hopefully it's gone? I saw a post a while back that you finally got your cherubs out of there! I can only imagine how much fun that must have been

Hal,

The tank is in the Union, the same "hall" that the piano room is in. It's kinda nice to watch the tank and listen to people play to the piano (especially when I'm running the plumbing

I guess when I moved from Albany four years back I was doing myself a disservice. But then again, I didn't know I'd be a reef keeper back then.

The tank looks great! Some weekend day that I have free I should take a ride down. It's still only 1.5 hours away.

Peace,

Chip
