These are low-flow powerheads that have a tendency to stop rotating after a short period of time (for most people). I have had the PS214 in my 65 gallon reef tank since June when my Minijet 300 finally died (7 years old). I have the sponge prefilter attachment, which is supposed to cut down/stop the rotating jams that were occurring when these PHs first came out. Mine has not stopped rotating since I put it in (and I haven't serviced/cleaned it). My experience seems to be the exception however.

These PHs are a good idea, but they ended up with a relatively mild flow rate, and don't seem to have completely overcome their initial tendency to stop rotating.

I have two of their biggest models in my 75g for about a year now. Kevin has already said it all.

I agree with the posts already made except that i have the earlier maodels which have been known to stop rotating and also have low flow rate but i was advised that the newer model have some modifications... I took a lighter and bent the rotater bar in one and in the other i burt the middle out of the bar... the result was a fast rotation in the one with the middle burnt out with higher flow rate and a little slower rotation but no stopping and alittle faster than the original also with increased flow rate .... I am actully satisfied but woulfd like to try the modifications the manufacturer has made...

I just got two, have to say im not really that high one them, IMO the above poters are right. One has already stopped moving
and the flow rates are very weak! Id say save your money.

I have 3 in my 46gal. ones been running for about a year now and the other 2 about 10 months or so. Your right they are not the most powerful powerheads on the market and yes you should be cleaning off the impeller every few months to keep its lifespan up (although I'm a hippocrite, havent touched them). Anyways, 2 of the 3 still rotate real well. My personal opinion is that they are worth the couple extra bucks and I will continue to buy them in the future. I use to hear alot of complaints about my powerheads but I havent heard anything in a while (I would imagine that the newer models are more reliable).
