A small worm showed up in my tank. It is in a tube attached to the rock, 1" long, only 2 small feelers stick out of its tube. Feeds by launching a string of mucous into the water, to which gunk sticks. Fairly nasty, though interesting.

Perhaps Spionidea (according to http://www.aquarium.net/1197/1197_1.shtml).

One of them I can live with. But is there any chance that this thing will reproduce en masse? I wouldnt want them all over the tank.

Sounds like you've got a vermetid snail. There's two of 'em on my crocea clam- perfectly harmless, and they're the only two I have in the tank. Dr. Ron Shimek has article on them which can be found at http://www.aquarium.net/0897/0897_8.shtml (sorry, the original link with pics seems to be down).

I stand corrected, it does indeed look to be a Vermetid snail, and not a worm. (I cant tell for sure if it is segmented or not) I think that the description of its feeding habits clinches it.

Perhaps I can get it to take a decongestant for that runny nose though.

Thanks.
