I really like this product, but its kinda pricey.

I want to run a closed loop through this in my tank with about 1200 GPH through 1" Tubing / Pipe.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Can 1" flow more than that?
Which Pump? Is the Mag Drive any good?
Will a regular 1 1/4" screen be okay for intake?
Could I put a sediment filter inline?

Has anyone done something similar? I would like to read and see pics.

(This is for a 125 Saltwater)

This is the Mag Drive I was looking at.

MAG-DRIVE 24 POND AND UTILITY PUMP(2400GPH)

I think its more like 2400 GPH and that is fine too. I think once I put one of these inline, it will just push as hard as it can - probably more like 1500-2000 GPH after the filter and sea swirl thing.

This has a 75/25 or 50/5 micron dual gradient sediment filter that will just catch the big particles. I could always add one of the small (10 micron carbon filter) after it inline. We'll see.

HAS ANYONE USED SOMETHING LIKE THAT ON A TANK? I Think its a good idea..

C'mon guys - I don't know you, but can you help?

I'd like to do this closed loop system, but I want to make sure I am getting the right stuff.

I don't think I can afford that Sea Swirl right now, but I can at least get the pump, and the "Big Blue" filter - if you guys think it would help

*I know it won't provide any biological filtration, but it will pick off the bigger particles, and help.

Please???

I think the mag 24 is overkill for the SS it says to use 1200 GPH maximum. I use a Mag 12 with my 1" SS I think thats a better match. One thing you should know is where you are going to mount it. I have mine at one end of the tank blowing towards the other which makes the current on one side of the tank more vigorous than the other. If you want to mount it in the center you must get the Y-adapter for the outlet otherwise it is too much water pressure and could quite possibly blow water right over the front glass. I plan on mounting mine in the center eventually but I didn't know what I was getting into when I ordered it and failed to order the adapter. Another thing people like to do is get two and mount them on opposite corners pricey but effective.HTH

I didn't think I needed the filter, but I've always got fine air bubbles, and particles floating in my water that the sump generates. That's another problem, but I thought the filter would catch a lot of junk...

I'll look at the Mag 12 - maybe two opposite would be best!

Thanks!!!

Ask Minh about the screens he uses for his closed loop setup.

Wow!! Really - Even 50 Microns would get plugged? I would think it would last at least a month or two!

I don't know "Minh" but I'll search..

I'll say it again..........."You don't need a filter for close loop. Just an intake screen is fine"

The 1" Sea Swirl can handle 1150 GPH.....if you try to push more water though it and it breaks they won't guarantee it....They say they can tell?

I emailed sea swirl to see what they say. Thanks for your help - I hope they will build a 1 1/4" or 1 1/2" model.

So - I guess no little filter?
