Buck,

Actually, I own the Ocean Currents oscillators. I routinely soak mine in vinegar. I take the bottom cap off and the spigot and soak the whole thing in vinegar for about 2 days (I occasionally swish it in the vinegar too). This really works well. I had to purchase 3 oscillators - one for cleaning and two for operation. I would give the Ocean Currents products a "C" grade - they do work but the maintenance is fairly high and the repair involves taking screws out and cleaning the delrin off the threads, etc. But they do have a great small foot print and don't require any electricity.

I was really wanting to add a couple to my tank until i read a product review on them. Apparently, they cause a big time loss of water flow, even if they don't just eventually stop alltogether.

Bought two when I first setup my 100 gal. They worked for about 3 days before both quit. I have a Sea-Swirl now and its been in the same tank for 8 months now without any problems.

hey techy, it's soaking now in some vinegar and water solution and ill probably open it up and see whats happening inside after. i also choose it because it required no power and was small. but after i spoke with my lfs they told me that right outa the box they had broken ones and ones that would just constanly spin around. combine that with no one would return any of their calls about replacements and i think this is a product that deserves a miss. they are far to expensive to replace when they break every now and then.

Yeah, I really gave these thing some thought when I setup my 150 a year ago. Then I saw a few of them in action, or should I say not in action. I use two 1" Sea Swirls and couldn't be happier...........Well! maybe if I hit the 200 million dollar lotto Saturday

well im not sure how many people own one of these. i loved mine when i installed it 7 months ago. a few months ago it started to get stuck so id give it a small tap and it would start to move again. this has been getting much worse in the last week until it packed it up today.

so i headed out to the lfs where i got it today and they wernt suprised when i told him. he told me he has a box full of broken ones and ocean currents won't return any of his phone calls to get them repaired replaced or get the money back on them.

so i guess im stuck with this pos and out 60 bucks.. please dont buy one if you were thinking of getting one they are utterly useless after a few months! some im being told are broken coming out of the box.

This more or less is the par for anything that MOVES in saltwater. They may work initially but sooner or later they stop (usually sooner).

One thing you might wanna do is soak the unit in vinegar for 12-24 hours. It could be calcium carbonate and other stuff has bound the unit up.
