Has anyone had any success with this skimmer or is it a total waste of time? I was wondering if anyone has managed to extract decent performance out of it. I was thinking of throwing in an airstone in the reaction chamber to get this thing to fractionate efficiently. It seems that there is too much turbulence created by the turbo pump which in turn hampers contact time.

Hey Mike,

Could you elaborate on what's involved in downgrading the Turbo to a Classic? Does ReaSea pay for the necessary components? I have a Turbo too that I'm less than satisfied with.

Looks like you guys saved me $70. I was getting ready to upgrade to the turbo.

Can a beckett make it skim better? I have looked for one at the LHD (local Home Depot) but they are not stocking them.

On a side note, how do you clean these things? I have run mine for several years and have growth/junk inside it. I tried cleaning it with hot water but the calcium is stuck hard.

My Turbo skims well, not great, well. But if you want more contact time just slow the skimmer down with the flow adjuster.

I have a red sea Berlin skimmer that wasn't functioning very well either. Yesterday I received the Beckett venturi mod and also a new Mag 7 pump. I replaced the venturi and the old Rio 2100 that was driving it and things are much much better. I actually had to turn the airflow down quite a bit to control the amount of skimmate I was getting. The beckett turbo venturi mod cost me $22 (that includes shipping) through Aquatic Ecosystems and the Mag 7 cost me $57 (that includes shipping) through Aquatic Technologies. Just looking at the skimmer, I'm very happy I made the modification....ask me further down the road if it helps my tanks health or not. If you want the links, holler.
