Just seen a special on pbs last nigh on calupra in the mediteranian that is taking over all the biological life off the coast. There is a nudibranch from florida they are going to import that eats only calupra.

That nudibrach is a small green one that is the same color as the caulerpa. Crabs eat some as well. But tangs eat it quickest. Unfortunately they will eat it all within days.

The yellow isnt the best eater, red sea sailfins and purples are better. The other thing is the type os calerpa( however you spell it). The kind that looks like saw blades is to hard to eat, tangs prefer the feathery or grape kind. Unfortunatly they eat it faster than it grows.

if it is the calupra that is devistating the medeteranian then nothing eats it except for the nucibrach i stated above. This calupra has a toxin in it, thus fish wont touch it. the nudibranch has adapted to tolerate the toxin and live with it in its system, thus fish wont eat them. A type of harmony that the anome and clown fish share. This nudibranch that is found in florida is going to be or maby already has been shipped to the mediteranian as this calupra is killing all the biological life off the cost. The PBS special hosted by Alan Alda showed film of this area since 95 and there is no longer reef life, just fields of green calupra. They also blamed a local aquarium as the cause of the release of this fast spreading and growing calupra. the aquarium was founded by jaque custoe(spelling?) Any way if your tangs aren't eating it then they know best. It is probably the aquarium trade morph of calupra so prune it out from time to time.

If you want the name you can go to REEF CENTRAL and ask DR RON. He gave me the name about 6 months ago. But I cannot recall at this time.

Nothing really eats these algae to any significant degree. They have chemical defense to keep fish from eating them. You will have to remove them by hand. I don't recommend putting them into the maintank because the invasivness of these algae. In the past, I have to tank a tank down and clean all the rock because of caulerpa overgrowth.
