As some of you know I swapped tanks about 6 months ago. I went from 55 to a 150. I have a 5-6" DLS and about 200 pounds of live rock (no refugium)I'm running a ETSS Reef Devil 2 skimmer, I get about a cup of skimate from the skimmer eack week. The nitrates are zero and I have no bad algae al all. The tank seems very healthy.Do you see any reason why I should upgrade to a better skimmer? If I upgrade it will be to a Euroreef CS6-2.

Mark,

It sounds like everything is running well. I am of the view that if it ain't broke...

Now, if you are just dying to spend your IRS refund check and help out our economy, that is a different story.

I am looking to upgrade from my 55 to either a 135 or a 150. How many electrical outlets do you have for your 150?

John,
LOL, I run my 150 off of only two outlets and one 15 amp circuit. I have the lights plugged in to one outlet and I have one of those heavy duty (25.00) 10 outlet boxes from HD on another outlet. Here's a list of whats on the 15 amp circuit.

2x250 watt HQI (10K)
1 400 watt PFO (Iwasaki)
4x55 watt Actinic PC's
3x4" fans in the hood
1 Amp Master 3000
1 Mag 7 Reef Devil
1 Mag 12 sump return
1 Mag 2 Geo Reactor
1 Maxi Jet 1200 Geo Reactor
2x1" Sea Swirls
1 Liter meter dosing pump
1 Sipedon float switch
1 10" Honeywell fan
1 Pinpoint PH meter
1 Ceiling fan (tank Room)
1 Home PC (tank room)
3x40 watt Ceiling fixture (kithcen)
2x75 watt recessed flood light (hallway)

If all this stuff is on for 5+ hours in will kick the breaker. This has happened a few times in the past but not for a few months since I learned to keep the hallway lights off and I have got rid of a few things on the tank. I plan to run the lights off another circuit someday when I can get my electrician buddy over here.

I agree with JohnD on this one... if everything looks happy, then why change anything?

Mark,

I just upgraded skimmers recently from a bastardized TF 1000 to a Lifereef. The TF was working ok but I really wanted to see what a better skimmer would do for my tank. So far I'm pulling out at least twice as much crude as before but I don't see any tremendous change in water chemistry or appearance, which BTW was fine before I switched. I can tell you that its nice to have a quality piece of equipment to work with as opposed to a piece of plastic. For that alone I think it was worth the upgrade in my case. Besides now I can stuff the tank even more.

John,
lol, I'm going to be heading out for a few days with the family. That's when the danger starts. The tank is setup to run alone for about a week......unless the circuit trips

Bowfront,
The lifereef skimmers was my 2nd choice. I think the reason I'm going with the Euroreef is because its made locally. It was a tough choice, kinda reminds of my lighting choices
