I am finally finished building my tank. I started to fill it tonight. Only a small amount of water to test the bulkheads. If everything is okay then I will continue adding water as fast as my R/O unit will make. So I am figureing a few days to get it completely filled. Well let me know what you think.

In realty it took a little over a month to build and let the cure.

the epoxy fiberglass base and back wall wwerre cured for 72 hrs before I could continue working on it.

And I let the silicone cure for a week while I finished the trriming the stand and staining. If I am lucky I will have it filled in three or four days. The R/O only does a 100 gallons a day.

Hey Afss,

By chance do you know Shawn Thompson or Gunther Schuman, both are very old freinds of mine that live(d) in St. Catherines. both soccer players.

Scott,

Yes your assumption is correct. Unfortunately there are no good fish stores around here, just a Big Al's in Kitchener that is almost farcical. I've been boycotting them now for about 6 months. I go in every now and then to see if they've cleaned up their act...but they never do.

That said, there is a local guy opening up a new store that will eventually be marine. He only opened 3 weeks ago and hasn't got that section open yet. I can understand that, I know how long it took me to start up one tank. I can only imagine starting a store system! Gotta be a lot of money for somebody just starting out.

Anyway, I normally go to Toronto or to the Big Al's in Hamilton. Can you recommend some good stores for me in Toronto, or elsewhere I don't mind driving...atleast while gas has come down to reasonable prices.

Ernie,
The tank is a 255 gallons with a 85 gallon refugium, 50 gallon sump, 20 gallon auto top off system and am thinking of adding in a 20 or 30 gallon long tank as a frag tank since I will be losing my frag tank to the sump on this one. So all total I looking at over a 400 gallon system

Chucker, or anyone for that matter. Please.. Any one who knows of any LFS within an hour or so of Saint Catharines please let me know.
icon_biggrin.gif

Do you live in the buffalo area Chucker?
Walter, I don't know them, but by the way this town is I'm sure I will within a year
icon_smile.gif
. Seems like everyone knows everyone here, but I just moved here a bit over 2 months ago. Do they have tanks?
Marc, I know of quite a few LFS in and around toronto. The problem with them is you never know when they will have anything, or if it will be reasonably priced. I'm busy today, but I can make up a list and locations sometime soon. If you want we could maybe meet in hamilton some week-end and drive up together, that is If i can get away from my wife. If I have to take here I'll have to go to all the other useless stores
icon_biggrin.gif
icon_rolleyes.gif
. Its easier to find them if you know where they are.. some are kinda hidden and i just found them by fluke.
Ernie, The lime is working great. My coraline has gone Ape**** since i started adding it and my hammer seems to have put on some more skeleton. I had a bit of a snow storm the first time I added it and unfortunatley lost my bi-color blennie. Everyone else faired ok.. too much to quick i guess I now dose 1 tsp everyday. How was niagara falls?

Waterloomarc, for a different experience, you could come to London for a change.
Check out Incredible Aquarium at the corner of 509 Commissioners RD W. at Wonderland Rd, (519-471-8300) a small store in the strip mall there. His salt water section is continually growing, with another wall of tanks now on the go. I run in to hobbyists from Toronto shopping in the store because the quality and selection is often better than they see in the Toronto stores. (their comments, not mine)
Don't look for mandarins or goniporia though as he doesn't want to sell those that likely can't make it in your tank.

are there any other stores in the london area? I have to admit the quality of the ones I saw in TO wasn't the best. I would be interested in heading up your way, but If i do I want to see all of the stores in a day. I think its about 2 hours from london to St Catharines isn't it?

Scott, the only other one is Aquarium Services on Wellington Rd, just off the 401, but most times, it hasn't anything different than what Big Al's in your area would have. They also offer for sale mandarins, and goniporia, on a regular basis.
It would probably be best to call Incredible Aquarium before coming just in case they sell out a lot just before you come down. Sometimes, a few days can deplete most of his stock when a lot of hobbyists come to town. He is normally closed on Tuesdays so he can stock up from his suppliers.
