Mantis v. Pistol - Can you tell the difference by the soun

I have heard some "popping" noises in my tank (90g reef). I tend to hear them within an hour or two of the lights going out (maybe because that is the time i go to sleep???). Anyway, they are usually 2 distinct "clicks" followed by a pause, lasting between 10 seconds and 10 minutes. I haven't found any cracked shells, but I did have a cucumber that looked pretty beat up one night. I know cukes can die quickly, but maybe it was attacked by something? mantis?

I don't know if it is a mantis shrimp or maybe a pistol shrimp. Any way to tell the difference without actually seeing the little bugger making the noise?
