Hey all,

I currently have a 75g reef with 2 48" Aquasun tubes and 2 actinics. The bulbs are 10 months old and I am getting ready to purchase new bulbs....

I was considering getting 1 actinic, 1 50/50, and 2 aquasuns......

any opinions......what is typical?

So far everything in the tank looks great, but I'm thinking it looks just a bit too 'purple'

i have a 72 gal with VHO i would put 2 antic and 2 whites on it the reason i like this is the light i get and the fact that i can do the dawn dusk thing

I would probably do 1 aquasun, 1 50/50, and 2 actinics.. the way you listed would work fine as well, it's just a matter of how you want it to appear.. and you would get more intensity with only running one actinic.

If you think that your current setup is too "purple", then I would definitely try to add more white light. The more white light that you use, the more intensity you are getting for the same wattage. In other words, your corals stand to benefit more from the Aquasuns first, then 50/50 and finally the 03 bulbs which are effectively useless for coral growth, etc. Hope that helps.

Hello Pat,
I noticed that you are going to purchase some more lights. Marine Depot, one of the sponser's here sell's URI bulbs for about 25$ each. If you buy 6 or more, they will ship them free of charge.

I can't touch them for that price at a LFS here.
