I setup my tank on 7/29/01, bought 13lbs(just a start) live rock, 4 damsels and for my 55gal. 3 of the damsels have died and now the 4 damsel has a white flake on his tail its been there for a couple of days, a friend of mine said it was some sort of Cotton#$$ something disease which comes from high nitrite levels? What sould I do, does my tank already have a disease(do I need to treat before adding any more fish)?

First, welcome to the board. I see this is your 5th post.

Have you tested for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate?

Are you using a protein skimmer?

Are you using RO/DI water or tap water?

Salinity levels?

Deep Sand Bed or crushed coral or nothing at all?

Did you notice similar symptoms in the other damsels before they die?

The more you know about your tank parameters the easier it will be to diagnose the problem.

Parasites like marine ick can be present even in a healthy tank. It is only when the livestock gets "stressed out" that they can become victim to the parasite.

good luck

Your tank needs to cycle.
Please do not purchase any more fish until you have tested to ensure that the cycle is complete.
You will get excellent advice on this board from reefers who have shared the same experience as you.
Please try to seek that advice before you take the next steps; easier on you and the fish. Welcome.
