Anyone out there using an Aquarium Systems Sea Clone protein skimmer.

I've had mine for 2 months and I need some advice on how to set it properly, ah the life of being a newbie

The instructions state that I should adjust the airflow so that the water level in the skimmer is even with the bottom of the collection cup tube.

When I adjust it to this level, I do not get the pretty cyclone they show in their packaging, instead I have a messy typhoon, but I do get waste in the collection cup. To achieve the lovely cyclone, I have to almost shut the airflow off.

The waste in the collection cup is greenish-brown and very liquid, is that what I'm aiming for?

Thanks!

I can't help you too much with the settings as I modified my old seaclone and then bought a stronger skimmer. What size tank do you have your skimmer on?

You won't get that little tornado effect in your skimmer like you see on hte box. That is a piece of rope put in to look like a venturi of bubbles.

If you do a search for SeaClone mods you may be able to get it to work a bit more. I tried withmine but had no luck. Maybe someone else who has worked with them more will give you a hand.

I'm running mine on a 54 gallon tank.

I looked for some mods, but many seem to be for a previous model which had a longer lower tube.

Would appreciate any modification suggestions.

Drill a hole in the top of the collection cup lid to fit an air line to a lime wood block to be placed in the lowest part of the skimmer. And cut the central innermost tube so its only about 3" tall. You may have to shave the air block to get it in, and youll have to be carefull not to break the central tube. Id personally go buy a proper one, i made the same mistake myself. But then i went on to make a bigger one when i bought i D&D Titan, i hate that skimmer.

The newest generation of Seaclone does have the inner tube cut down already. I've been running one for about 8 months and I hate it. They are hard as hell to set right and the slightest thing will cause billions of microbubbles to jet into the tank. The most important thing about it is to clean the collection cup often. If you let gunk build up in the cup the foam won't make it to the top and it wont produce any skimate. My advice would be to sell it and buy a Prism or a remora.
