You know when a reefer lives in your neigborhood when the house has a weird blue-ish glow at night, and it aint the TV!!
People stop and stare and wonder what the heck you've got going on in there. Sometimes a sheepish passerby might ask, is that one of those fish tanks with them special lights in there? Anybody have funny experiences to share reguarding their glow-in-the-dark house or apartment??

I live on the water front and observed my house from across the bay one night. Kinda spooky. It makes me wonder what strangers think....

My friends always make fun of me about that. I live in an apartment building and they can always spot my apt right away from the glow that is emitted from the lights. they always tell me that the people in the building across the road will get p-o'ed at me because they have ceased to know what true night is really like.

One of our customers had the police come to their door, because somebody had reported odd lights, not unlike hydroponic greenhouse lights, coming from the basement

Of course they invited the officers in for a look at their reef!

In our old apartment, there was about 100 yards of field, and then the interstate Thruway (route 90 for you New Yorker's). We had a club meeting one time, and a new member showed up, and was amazed once he got into my apartment..."So you're the guy who's tank you can see from the Thruway... I always wondered who that was..."

I've made sure to tell all the neighbor's at the house that I've got a reef setup, and if they see any strange lights, and notice a salty, rotten smell coming from my basement, to not worry about a thing..

I have two huge windows on the reef side of the apartment, and you can see the blue glow quite a distance...

All the drug addicts down the street are wondering what kinda parties I'm throwing every night.

:)

Peace,

I live in the city in Boston. Right out in front of my apartment is a telephone pole with a fire alarm pull box. To let people know there is a pull box there, the city put a red lens on the street light above the alarm.
So my apartment glows orange-red and an odd purple-blue.
One night a surly drunk was passing as I was watching out the window. He yelled up at me, asking if I knew I lived in a "red light" district.
I nodded and waved, to which he responded, "Black lights went out in the '70s!!"
I thanked him for the info, and he crawled home.

My reef is in the front living room, and you can get a pretty good view of it from the front of the house, especially at night. I get comments from passers-by all the time about how cool the tank looks through the window. Sometimes I invite them in for a first-hand look.

Mine glows blue through a front window to my house... no comments yet from neighbors.

I was in home depot several months ago buying that Lights of America fixture for my sump and talked to their lighting "expert" on getting some metal halide lamps cheaply (no luck there...) and after I told him what i was going to use them for he said "yeah, I thought that it was either for an aquarium or for growing pot." He told me that he used to work at a lighting supply company and was once called as an expert witness in a criminal trial where a guy got caught growing pot in a closet. Apparently the cops got a tip, went over to the guy's house and entered without a warrant and found the stuff. They claimed that it was probable cause because they could see the lights from the street. The guy from home depot had to tesify about the intensity of the lights and wether they would be visible and distinguishible from the street.

The lighting guy at Home Depot may be full of it, but it was an interesting story nonetheless.

for anybody who lives in in The City mine is the window on Fell Street just after the freeway ends, you can see it if you look up as you drive by, it glows eerie blue until 11 pm every night and the neighbors are always asking what the heck i'm doing in here. i just tell 'em it's a secret.

My wife's cousin used to come over to go out for the night and when we would return he would routinely state,"Hey,I didn't know you lived in BLOCKBUSTER VIDEO."

Just started my reef up again after a two year break, what is the deal with the blue night lights. Are you running actinics all night? Just curious.

My wife refers to my home office (where the tank is) as my "meth lab"

My actinics stay on an hour after the rest of the lights.

One night my son and I went to visit FarmerTodd. He lived in an apartment in Toledo. Being my first time to his place I was intently trying to read the directions when my son piped up "just follow the blue glow dad, follow the blue glow". Looking up from the directions it was pretty easy to find Todd's apartment.

The best time is Halloween night when the kids come to the door and yell, "Holy Crap Mom see that tank." Usually by the time the kids come to the door the blues are on and that whole side of the house is lit up nice........ I like it!!!!!!

Yep, mine's blue too. The little old lady across the street, god love her, asks me everytime she see's me. What's that light? I'll tell her it's my fishtank and she will walk up close and see our yellow tang through our curtains and say "oh my, look at that fish! It's so pretty." Then she ends up asking me silly questions like, what do I feed it and if I caught it in the ocean on my trip to Florioda. She such a sweetie, she makes me laugh.
