building a protein skimmer

has anyone here built their own protein skimmer? kind of on a budget and didnt want to spend 30 bucks on a clear plastic tube... if anyone could help it would be much appreciated!!

have never done it, but you should check theDIY section of this board.... I would think there would be lots of info on this there. I am sure I have read of some DIY skimmers on there

I built mine and used 4" PVC w/ a clear tuperwear collection cup. It works great and I have no complaints. Because of space limitations I simply took several different ideas from different DIY plans off the net. If you need to see in main body to see what's going on, simply use a hand mirror and a flashlight. I can angle it just right and shine the flashlight at the mirror and presto. This helps when first tuning. 4" Pvc can be a little expensive if you need to buy a full piece, try calling arond to find some scrap pieces. Most wholesalers have one or two forklift drivers who don't pay attention and break the ends off PVC. Thats how I got all my PVC for free.
