Another question! By the way, thanks so much for you help! I have a yellow wrasse, royal gramma, tomato clown, mandarin goby, and yellow tang now. I just put a kole and clown tang on hold at the lfs. I have a 90 gallon tank and everything is doing fine so far. Lots of caves etc for the tangs to swim in. Any opinions on adding these two after which I will be done adding fish until I lose some!!

Until you loose some ? Are you expecting that ?

Sorry.....but don't expect that, make wise choices.

After a recent purchase of a clown tang, I can tell you, you will have your hands full. Mine is in a 155g and is only maybe a couple inches long. I have to feed him three times a day minimum, very high energy level. I have a huge skimmer. I think he "may" make it, He seems to be putting on weight. He is about a third of the size of my yellow tang. I am feeding him juvenile sized golden pearls and OSI spirulina in small feedings, plus what the tank is fed.

Trying to help,

Deb

Only if you really need to should you add another tang in your tank. The kole of all tangs would be the best choice.
Under no circumstances should you purchase the clown tang. They are not hardy, very prone to disease and agressive as h'''.

I agree with everyone else on the Clown but the Kole tangs are very hardy and they also don't look like yellow tangs so most of the time the yellow's will leave them be.

A word of advise. Be ready for a fight. Your yellow tang is going to harass the new tangs. Plus clown tangs are a boistrous tang as well. I hope there is a noticable size difference between the yellow and the clown. The smaller fish normal will submit to the larger fish.

I would not suggest buying the clown tang. IT WILL DIE, AND YOUR TANK IS TOOOOOOOOOOO SMALL. I have 2 purple and 2 yellows in my 250, and they are doing fine. They actually school. Iplan on adding a scopas and a red sea sailfin. BUT i should be fine. As a general rule you should have either 1 or more than 3 tangs. They also get along with my annularis and six bar angels.

I second tip on either 1 tang or over 3 tangs to a tank. I have 5 yellow in a 125.

I would advise that if going to add more than one tang, you have a 6 foot long tank. Tangs love to swim back and forth. 6' gives them the room to exercise and still have plenty of room to hide in rocks.

walk away from the clown tang. It is a beauty of a fish, but needs plenty of room. For a 90 gallon, the Kole is a much, much better selection.

Make sure the new arrival has a few places to hide during those first few critical days. You should consider turning off the lights for a day and maybe rearranging the rockscape to put everyone on an even keel.

I have a red sea tang and a purple tang. I thought I'd add a yellow tang and the purple tang beat the out of him. He had cuts in his side. I put him in the sump for now. I wanted to add another tang but this purple tang s yellow tangs.

You could also try a regal tang or a rabbitfish of some type. I

In my 240 I have a naso, regal, and a yellow tang. My regal has grown from a 1.5 incher to a 5.5 incher in a year and was only harassed by theyelow when it was the same size as it. I dont have any problems with the tangs now or with their blue face angel tankmate.

I agree with the clown tang being a bad idea ( I dont like Acanthurus genus tangs as a general principle though) The kole is a great choice though.
