I am in the middle of bulilding my bar/fish room. I want to use a cube tank within the 200-500 gal range. Are tanks able to be built this large (like 4' x4')? If I got one made in acrilic would the support(brace) lip be 2 big to clean the tank easy? Anyone with a large cube tank or with pics please let me know the pit falls I might encouter. Thanks Stan

PS this will be a softy/lps reef

I bought my acrylic aquarium from Tenecor, in Phoenix, AZ. Got a chance to see the facility when I picked it up last year. They certainly could build you a tank, any size, shape, or configuration your heart desires!

Check out:
Tenecor Aquariums

When I was there, I saw a custom tank that was an Octagon, about 3 - 4 ft. on a side, stood 8 ft tall, and had custom bar & barstools built into a cabinet that surrounded the tank...awesome sight!

Good luck!

Standard size tanks have the advantage of weight distribution and you can reach most places inside them. I went through this excercise and learned that these rectangle tanks are done for this reason.
Also go with glass! I made the mistake of an acrylic 180 and truly wish I bought glass!

UH OH, here comes the inevitable discussion of acrylic vs. glass!

ACRYLIC ALL THE WAY! Just be careful with it and you won't scratch it.

Good luck.

My LFS has a tank like you describe... I think it is 4'x4'. I can ask about it if you want.
