my kalk mix smells fishy when i mix the stuff. is this common or is it time for me to go out and buy a new container of mix. the kent mix isn't that old but i suppose because of the extreme humidity here in michigan in the last month it may have picked some moisture. any thoughts?

Kalk should not have odor whatsoever. Are you sure its the kalk mix? I could be the water you are using.

If it is the kalk mix, I say chuck it and get a new batch.

My experience has been that if you use the same containter to mix your kalk in over a long period of time, it will develop an ammonia like smell. If this is similar to what you have, then I would say it's normal. Hope that helps.

If you are using RO/DI water to make up your limewater your DI cartridge may be spent. I've noticed the fishy smell from this before.

When I first started dosing, my kalk smelled like cheese - I figured out it was the container, even though I had never used it for anything else. Maybe it was the type of plastic.
