If I'm not mistaken, doesn't quartz trasmit UV radiation? We have to use quartz objectives and lenes in our high end UV laser microscopes.

I think we need more info to answer the question. What kind of uv light and what application? Yes, quartz does transmit all UV. Regular glass transmits some wavelengths, as does plastic.

Quartz sleeve is to protect the uv lamp so it does not get soaked in the water. Makes it last longer and prevent some accident if the bulb breaks. It also makes it easier to replace it (bulb).
