I have a pump with 1/2 inch output and 3/4 inch input, both threaded. The input takes a 1/2 inch threaded male adapter. Obviously using one will reduce the potential input to the pump but will it effect the rated output? In other words, do the manufacturers design the pump to produce rated capacity with a fitting attached to the input?

Just occurred to me that since the output is half inch, then of course there is no restriction by by using 1/2 inch pipe on the input. I'm slow.

Anyway, my problem is that I plumbed the overflow and return pipes side by side and the skimmer also dumps its output in the same place: right on top of my in-sump return pump. My sump is too small to conveniently baffle but I think I can keep most of the bubbles from being returned to my show tank by extending my return pump input to the other end of the sump. Anyone else done this or have any comments?
