Protective Clown

I added a pair of true percs to my tank and about a week later added a 8" carpet anenome. At first, neither of the clows would go near it, now they are fighting over it. As a matter of fact the female won't even let the male near it. She won't even let me feed the anenome. Everytime I try feeding it she will grab the food away from the anenome and toss it aside, almost trying to protect it. Has anyone ever seen such strange behavior?
