Two years ago I got a tiny torch coral that had hitchhiked on a piece of live rock. It is a beautiful flourescent green w/white tips. It has grown huge (fragged once) about 7-8 inches when fully open. Today I noticed this dark brown mucus looking substance coming from one of the heads of it. I tried to siphon it out but it just disingrated..then I noticed more come out. Any thoughts on what this could be??

It sounds like its spewing zooxanthellae(spelling sucks tonite). Nothing to worry about unless it doesn't stop or the head doesn't open again. I a couple corals that do this on occasion like a huge octobubble and open brain. They always look better than ever after spewing (that sounds kinda wrong huh? :) )it just takes a couple hours for them to come back. My anemone does this sometimes too.

HTH Good Luck!

It could be expelling some of its symbiotic algae (zooxanthellae?). My torch coral did it now and then and seemed healthy.
