Well I just completed the long planned move of my 125gal reef tank from Ripon, WI to Carmel, IN, about 365 miles. Got everything setup and everything survived the trip. I thought all my planning had panned out. There was 1 problem. I had so little time to make the move that I had to rush more than I wanted and the 1 thing I didn't do was to be extra sure the floor was level ("looks pretty flat so set it up and keep things moving"). Well, it was ok for 3 days and then the back developed a crack. Of course, the reason I had to rush is that I had to return to WI for a week so my wife calls a bit panicky to say the tank is leaking all over the basement floor, there is a crack in the back which is getting bigger and oh, now it is starting to bulge.
Well, now with my coaching over the phone everything is in the 100 gal sump(almost-a rock fell onto a fire shrimp in the haste to empty the tank).
My first thought was to sell or give away any livestock until we can buy and get out of this miserable rental house but I just can't do it.
I decided to replace the allglass with an acrylic tank because it will be much lighter to carry down the steps (was that a job!). It needs to fit the stand (72X18"). I was thinking a tenecor. Any other suggestions? Anyone know a good place to get the tank?

You will fall in love with your Tenecor tank! www.Reefgeek.com has the best services AND prices on the net! Get one of their trick looking center overflows too! They are worth it! I love both my Tenecor tanks and will never go back to glass.

What is that? I couldn't find it listed in their custom options with the other overflows.

Make sure the stand supports the entire base of the acrylic tank. If I am not mistaken, acrylic tanks need a solid base for support.

Thanks Cindy W and oyster. I suspected that might be the case and I was planning to cut a piece of 3/4" plywood to fit on top of the stand (which currently only has cross braces) to support the tank. It's good to know for sure though.

Howdy,

I was checking out the Tenecor tanks at the reefgeeks website, and didn't notice any mention or prices for built-in overflows. Could someone tell me where the link is on the website, or what the pricing is?

Thanks,

Scott.

not sure with reefgeek.com. it may be a nagotiated price over the phone. to get an idea of what a reef ready tencor tank costs, go to www.tenecor.com much more expensive.

Talk to Greg about the overflows at reefgeek, they dont list them, but sell em real cheap still. I paid about $120 for an 18"x5" Trapezoidal center overflow with dual 1" drains and dual 3/4 inch returns on my 120g tank, and $140 for a custom 20"x7" trapeziodal overflow with dual 1.5" drains and 1" inch returns.

Yancey - first, Reefgeek is a very qualified dealer of ours. I just want to clear something up. We're working on website revisions to provide better information. It's not clear to everyone that on our site, pricing for reef-ready refers to our reef-ready packages, which include the filter, media, pump(s) and plumbing as well as the tank overflow(s).

Taking this into account, I think we're fairly priced. We're probably a little higher than most of our dealers, but it's not really in anyone's interest for me to undercut dealers who provide good accessories and good service.

Thanks for the good words folks!
