I'm going to be moving this coming weekend and I was discussing with my father how I was going to move my tanks. He suggested that he has some old plastic food safe 55 gal drums that were at one point used to store concentrated apple juice. These barrels have been around the house for about as long as I can remember, I was shocked when He said that he still had them. I remember that when I was little they still smelled of apple juice but I haven't been near them in years I don't know if they still smell of the stuff or not. So what do you think? should I give them a shot? What would be a good way to clean them so that they are safe to use?

Thanks,
Ryan

I use the 5 gallon containers from Dairy Queen. I was them out for about a month to get rid of all the crap in them. Some are from pickles, some from strawberries and other stuff.

Never had a problem, just make sure they are clean and do not leak.

Ryan, I use a 50 gallon drum for my water change container that was used to store apple cyder. All I did was wash it out with water then let it sit full for a couple of days and then washed it out again, never had any problems.

Thanks guys,
that was what I was hoping to hear. These barrels are at least 15 years old and have been empty all that time, so I guess they are ok. That is exactly what I wanted to hear. Any other oppinions are more than welcome, anyone see aproblem?
Thanks again,
Ryan
