I have a reef devil 3. I run 19 bio balls and the water level is about an inch and a half within the column. I don't control the amount of air being drawn into the water by the number of bio balls but rather I have a valve on the air intake. By the way, I run an Iwaki 40 on it so the flow is actually too high.
I find that having the outlet totally out of the water being the best setup for me. I use the valve to raise or lower the water level within the skimmer.

I have a reef devil III and never had the instructions for it. I am wondering how it is supposed to be positioned to work most effeciently. I would assume that the further the outlet is below the water level, the higher the level in the water column of the skimmer. I am wondering what is the best level to maintain.

Thanks
Chris
