I am about to give up - I am tired of looking at my tank only to find my powerhead pointing someplace weird. It seems obvious all the suction-cup-thingies don't last long. And using wire of some sort is a no-no, so what do you do to keep powerheads in place?

I see that maxijets come with an optional plastic hanging hook-type thing, but it doesn't seem to work on my tank well (plus I have a glass cover which won't sit well if I hang the pumps on the side). Does anyone have any ideas?

Point my finger at them and tell them to stay. Smart a$$ in every crowd.

You have to get glass clean. Then make sure suction cups are new. If they leave trace of black rubber on your fingers when you rub them to clean them, they are old and should be tossed. I think petwearhouse and few other MO vendors sell replacement ones. At least that is what I do for my 3 MJ 1200s on naturalwave wavemaker.

I have found that a little duct tap on the outside of the glass holding the power cord seems to work. I had the same problems you are having until I used the tape. Course it only works if the powerhead is on the back of the tank and the tape is out of sight.

Hope this helps...

Stand them on top of rocks and wedge them in by using spray bars that span the entire width of the tank. You can even stack them ontop of each other. I agree, suckers...., Suck.

I just had a idea.....velcro. You could superglue strips of velcro to the powerhead. I'm thinking that you could also try to superglue or epoxy velcro to the tank wall, might be permanent though.

Velcro isn't strong enough to hold against the vibration of maxijet 1200's, Been there, Done that.

The only thing I could suggest is to use a razor blade to give your glass a very thorough cleaning. Clean the suction cup well until you no longer feel slimy-ness on the surface, and push each and every single suction cup with your thumb until you make sure it has a good suction.

Other then that, use the rock to wedge it.

Danmhippo is right on!!!The only way that works for me is by making sure the glass is squeaky clean by using the razor blade and the suction cups are also cleaned off real well. Even then, the powerhead may detach after a good length of time.

All of the power heads that I have purchased have the suction cups attached to a piece that comes off of the power head. I just use epoxy to attach the suction cup to the tank. You can still remove the powerhead and clean it.
