This is very sad. I want to know how someone managed to steal a clam. I was in the shop on Saturday, and I agree -- Eddie is a cool guy. His store, when fully set-up and stocked, will definitely be one of the best stores in the Bay Area, if not the best one. I can't wait for the SPS tank he's setting up -- lit with 400 watt halides and a 100 gallon surge.

I would look first at the employees, or someone who has access after hours.

Stealing a clam isn't as easy as it sounds. Personally, I have an alibi!

Hello,

On Sunday, Jan 27th, a 5" Black and White Maxima was stolen from Tropical Paradise Aquarium in San Leandro, CA. This is, needless to say, a very valuable clam, and was a very sentimental piece of livestock for the owner. The clam was not for sale; it belonged to the owner.

For everyone that has been to this store, you know that the owner Eddie is a VERY nice guy. He has done nothing but help people out, which makes the fact that his prize clam was stolen sickening at best.

There will be a reward for anyone that can aid in the apprehension of the SOB that stole this clam. This is not a hard clam to recognize;it is very rare. Please, if you have any information regarding who has this clam, please contact me by email. Feel free to voice your comments, as this will keep the thread at the top. Thank you very much.

Clams can go hours in the open air. So taking it out of the tank is not that hard on them. Unfortunately some people use this information poorly.

John Tullock has often spoke of a time when IIRC he had a shop and someone stole an anemone from him. He didn't realize it until he was called by another store owner in the area. The other store owner was suspicious of a customer who was in his store and had a large amount of water dripping from his pants pocket. The anemone was in his pocket!

Hey-don't clam up if you know the culprit. He should be taken out in a black and white.

Just when I thought I had heard everything. This is unbelievable. The owner has every right to feel bad and the @$#%&* that stole it can and should fear the wrath of doing such a thing. How sick??? If you can't handle the expense of this reefkeeping hobby going around stealing stuff is as low as you can get. They will get caught one way or another.

Someone could have had a bucket of water in the car, grabbed it and carried it out dry. In any case this is sad, I agree check ebay. Doesnt the store have video cameras? The thief will probably kill it before you would be able to recovor it, I doubt a serious reefer would go around stealing clams.

Sorry to hear about the clam

The fact of the matter is that, when a store doesn't have any security cameras, it is like an open invitation for theft. I would be shocked if this was the first thing that had been stolen.

I hope the dipsh1t who stole the anemone, put it in his pocket, and kept shopping got a bunch of nematocysts stinging him in his hooha.

Sounds like something Homer Simpson would do.

Just terrible.

What idiots.

"Putting this anemone in my pocket then continuing to shop is the smartest thing I've ever done.

Ouch!!!!! My 'nads!!!! OOOOOOUUUUCCCCHHHHH!!!"

It's a wise idea to put locks on display tanks. I know some LFS in the Chicago area do that- not only to protect from theft but to keep customer's hands out.

The anemone in the pocket trick- wow! That truley is something H. Simpson would do.
