I have these algae growing the last few months and can't seem to get rid of them. I pull them out every week but they come right back in the same spot again. Can some please ID these damn suckers and give some suggestions on how to get rid of them?

Surfsup, please disregard my first post, the algae in question I believe is Bryopsis plumosa. I was just reading on another board how hard it is to eradicate, one guy fought it for 2 years and it ended up covering all his rock, he finally had to replace all the live rock in his tank. He said it reproduces by spores. I would suggest getting that pc of L/R out of the tank.

Ive had briopsys - I pulled it out (It does come out in clumps). It came back. I pulled it out again - it came back. I did this about 3 or 4 times and then it never came back. There is also a nudibranch (lettuce) which supposedly eats it - mine all go sucked into powerheads before they got a chance to. Good luck-

yeah, i believe it is also bryopsis. i had tons of it also, i picked the stuff out every couple of days. it's grew like mad.

what i ended up doing was taking individual rocks out and scrubbing them. a scopas tang someone let me try out, took that stuff up in no time. i was really surprised as everone said nothing will eat it.

good luck.

Surfsup, I am sorry I can't identify this, but I will say that I wish I had it in my reef, for my tastes it is beautiful.

Thanks guys for all your help. This bryopsis is a pain in the a$$. I've had it in the beginning but only in small quantities and they disappeared when I just pull them out. The area in the picture is the worst and can't seem to get rid of it. I tossed the small rock that was covered with it and I'm working on the larger 2' rock that had alittle growing right now. The smaller 6" rock was just covered with green/orange button polyps. Here is a pic of what it used to look like before the attack:
