Ion exchange resin is ion exchange resin isn't it. If you can regenerate normal exchange resins, you should be able to regenerate TWP resin right? Heres the thing. How do regenerate normal resin.

At work we use conc. acid and base solutions run intermitently to break the bond between the resin and the ions. That works for sephadex and sephalose. These are protien extracting resins.

Is the same true for these? If so, how do you guys, if anyone makes their own DI, regenerate your resins?

I only ask, because Temecula, CA water is CRAP!! and blew out my TWP in 20 gallons. I could have gotten a better deal being ripped off my my LFS @ 1.00$ a gallon for RO! Ohh well.

You got it!!

Take a look in the library section. Somewhere there is an article about how to separate and recharge TWP resins.

I used to do it all the time before I got my AquaFX RO/DI unit. You basically use Muratic acid (as the acid) and Red Devil lye (mixed in water as the base solution).

It works well. It made the kitchen a little stinky, but my wife got over it. hehehe

Hope that helps,
Eboman

There's 2 versions in the Articles section. Read the big one, and throw it away--then go back and use the edited version.

Amazing what's on this site besides the bulletin board, isn't it?

Lots of questions can be answered by doing a simple search through the library folks, and many more in the archives here on the UBB too.

Chucker is right. There is an article in the library about recharging TWP cartridges. I read it a few times, but IMHO it is just too much work. Who needs to be fooling with acids and lye in your kitchen?

Eboman, you have a very understanging woman. My wife won't put up with that sh*t. Especially to save a few bucks. Take Eboman's advice and get yourself an RO unit. You will be very happy you did.

As for me, I bought a 3-stage Dolphin from AquaFX and couldn't be happier.
