Hey Chucker, nice to see another arlington grad here! Class of 98 here

Born, raised and typing right now from LaGrange! However, I go to school up in Troy (across the river from Albany), but I will definitely be stopping by to check out the store!

For the store.... cheap salt, cheap sps frags and larger sps colonies as well... Did I mention sps yet?

also if there's any chance for a small captive prob tank where reefers can bring in their frags and have them sold for almost the same price... that would be cool.

Johnny,

I dont know if Im understanding what you meant, but if I am, why in the world would he want to set up a tank for hobbiests to compete with him within his own store?

A better thing for him to do is to buy hobbiests frags for a decent price (not for pennies) and then resell them.

I would make the trip to the store if you had an amazing selection of insanely COLORFUL SPS frags. That would make it all worth while. I think with the way the hobby is going the best way to get customers in the store is to have a good selection of SPS frags at fair prices as well as high end reef equipment. Try to get a friendly staff also.

Chris,

Simple... while he wouldn't make much money on the 20g tank with a few frags in it... it would attract customers who would then buy other corals. It would also be a good way to get new reefers interested in sps by making inexpensive corals available to them and once they bought those... they'd want more and a calcium reactor and additives, etc.

I agree that selling them for the same price he buys for them wouldn't be great, but a 2-3x markup isn't needed either.

I just think it might be something interesting to try.

That may be the best way to get in hardcore SPS people, but total coral sale nationwide is probably only 5-10% SPS.. softies are by far the majority, and making a store to cater to the SPS crowd is a serious financial mistake. Having great SPS isn't bad, as long as you have balance.. but it isn't going to be what buys his new bmw. Heh.
