Well, I am from oregon but am stationed at FT lewis. 6 month old reef 55g. Small but going to upgrade. What part of portland? My family is in the beaverton and wilsonville areas.
Bryan, there are many reefers that spend their bulletin board time at www.thereeftank.com and as luck would have it are planning a BBQ in Portland on Aug 18.
I asked a similar question in January but can't find it on this new board platform. Besides it's been 7 months. I'm looking to meet up with or talk with fellow Oregonians.
I have a 70 gallon reef tank which is eight weeks old. I'm a very proud reef parent.

I don't know about you guys, but I feel I'm in a black whole when it comes to this hobby here. Portland probably has some better LFS's and more hobbyist's, but there isn't much down here. What do you guys think about starting up some type of Oregon reef society? Would it be possible, or even worth it? Is there any interest in something like that?
Sorry it took so long to reply. I probably have another two years up here. My sister lives in beaverton. My best friend works at nike there next to you. I am interested in buying frags, since I am fairly new to the hobby. My tank has been up for 7 months and I am ready to start with corals. I have a few leads, but the best ones it seems are in Portland. If you guys haven't been yet there is a store in tualitin that is off of martinazzi road that is amazing. He is selling corals for 15 and has hundreds. he has a show tank that is 225g and is the most beutiful tank I have seen. I don't recall the name of it but he is next to a photo shop on the back side of fred meyers. Should take a look if you haven't already.
Ranger, the name of the LFS in Tualatin is Upscales Fish and Reptiles. His display tank is great. Can't say the same for his livestock though...every time I see his fish they look pretty unhealthy. Last time I went the corals weren't doing well, either...maybe I just caught him at a bad time for livestock.
Hi BBReefkeeper, I live in Hillsboro and have a Oceanic 55+ with a 12 gal sump. It has been set up since about Sept 99. I have fragged a couple of LPS, but I would really like to get a bigger tank. I stop in at Upscales every now and then but the prices are kinda high (except for stony corals). I like to go to Seahorse Aquarium Supply in portland, another store in a house in Vancouver that I can't remember the name off right now, and Waves in Lake Oswego which has the best tanks and corals by far. If I ever get the money for a bigger tank I would like to trade frags.. one day..... 1500$ later...

The picnic is a go, rain or shine, I was sick this week and haven't yet nailed down the park site but will have it up by Tuesday at the latest, if all else fails we can have it in my backyard
I'm not in Oregon, but I did just get my second order of sps frags from Travis at Upscales. These are by far the nicest frags I've gotten in awhile. The solid blue acropora is unbelievable, the green w/blue tip and the cream w/blue tip are also sweet. Plus he also sent some other equally as nice frags too.
