I bought a 100gpd tornado - 4 stage RO/DI, with an extra carbon block and pre-filter, two types of fittings and a TDS meter, and free shipping to Canada for $199. Customer service has been great and I should be getting the unit today so I'll let you know of the quality once it's set up and running.
Blah. There's cheap and there's good. What do you want for your aquarium?
I have a SpectraPure 60gpd and it's been worth every penny. And I would say that the Kent units are a close second behind it. I don't like there chemicals any more than the rest of you, but Kent makes a solid RO/DI unit that's been on the market more than just a few months, or in the case of some of the ones you guys mention, a couple of weeks...
I always prioritize the health of the animals and water quality over price. Always! You only buy an RO/DI unit once. Or at least that's how it should be.
spectra pure is what I use.. I have been very happy with the product and the support I have received has been great! They even custom mixed DI carts to fix my local cloramine water problems.
I agree with a few of the others, give Dave @ Reefpure a call, awesome guy, and you will probably end up getting one for a lot less than you would anywhere else and the customer service is supposedly top notch though I have yet to find out *knock on wood*
Kent and Spectra Pure have been in business many years, Aqua F/X for about 2 years and the others mentioned above I think about 3 or 4 months. It depends I suppose on whether you want to stay with the proven companys or take a chance that the new guys will be in business next year IMO.

Call Dave at ReefPure...
I think his promotional period might be over by
the end of the month. As I recall, there was
some site that will give you an additional 25% off is units.
The housing for all RO/DI system are all essentially the same. Which membrane you put in your unit is the one thing that make a unit good or not.
I just get a RO system from Sam's Club, or Costco for $150.00. It also has a 3 g pressurized water storage system and an auto shut-off valve. These two are most important for trouble free operation. You need to replace the membrane occasionally. I find that the higher the output the less the amount of water I can get out of it. Our water here in Corpus Christi is so hard that it lot the membrane off very fast. A 90 GPD Hi-S SpectraPure membrane only last 6-7 months for me while a 60 GPD lasted for more than one year.
I got a 90 GPD SpectraPure 5 stage RO/DI with storage tank for 450+ four years ago. I am still using it. I install an essentially same system minus the pressure gauze for 150.00 for my mother two weeks ago. The membrane for my mother system only produces 15 GPD. There are few of us here use more than 15 g of evaporated water per day for our tank.
I just get the system sell at Costco/Sam's Club (Premiere 5 stage RO system) and use it for drinking water also if I was you. BTW, the Premiere system does not have a DI chamber. It has two chambers for Carbon instead. With minimal re-plumping, you can convert one of these chambers to a DI chamber. I am pretty handy with things so I did not find this to be a problem.
I've been using a Spectra-Pure (Spectra Plus 80)5 stage since 1998 and only now ordering a new RO membrane for it. It has dropped production to about 60 gpd. It's rated at 80 gpd and I make my water up in 100 gallon increments, which last me about a month. It has put about 5000 gallons of RO/DI water in the membranes life. I've replaced the carbon filter and sediment filters twice and gone through 4 DI cartridges in 4 years. I've had other purification filters and my advise is: You get what you pay for. That is especially true of the DI cartridges. Buy the best you can afford in whatever brand you decide on. I've had to repurchace too many things in this hobby because I wanted to save a dime. It always cost me more in the long run. Everyone has different results on the life of the membranes due to different supply water quality.
Another vote for Spectrapure http://www.spectrapure.com/ I've been using a 5 stage 60g/day for some time. I like the product and the tech support that has been offered to me by this outfit over the years.
