I just saw the eclipse hood that fits on a 10g (or a 15 high)...has room for 2 bulbs.....I was thinking the 15 watt flourescent coralife 18 inch....that woul;d allow 30 watts over a 10 gal nano with no retrofit..what do you guys think? seems like a nice compact little solution......and comes with the pump, etc all in line...150g/hr......and the filter media / biowheel can be taken out..

I think you would be much better off with a good skimmer and high intensity lighting, maybe PCs or a small metal halide.

Well, right now I have my 75g reef that is doing well, I was just interested in starting a 10g as a side project. I agree that the PC would be a better choice for lighting.....probably look into that. Skimming on a nano is controversial, most of the reading I have done leans towards weekly water changes (2-3g on a 10g) and no skimming.....

Go with the PC's. I have a 32w 10000k and a 32w actinic on my 15 high. Everything grows like crazy. (you want any sargassum, let me know...)

How much was the eclipse hood? I would say i have about $150 plus labor in my hood. Its built from oak plywood with solid oak trim. I custom matched the stain to match my desk, so it looks real nice.

There is a lot of nano information there, most people over there don't use skimmers on tanks that small. I am trying skimmerless on my 10 gal but it has only been set up for a few weeks with no problems or film build up. You will have to keep your bio load small if you go that route though. I am using PC on my nano.

I will also totally agree, don't waste your money with eclipse. you are much better off just getting a small MH pennant and a hangon skimmer. I tried the eclipse way, big wast of time and a big headache.
