I know that she is doing what comes natural but she has disturbed quite a bit of sand in 3 different areas in my 65 gallon tank. Should I be conserned about her wrecking the entire DSB?
This tank is currently a FOWLR with DSB for filtration.
Everything in the tank has been doing really well, including the past 5 months that she has been in the tank.
So am I just being paranoid of should I consider moving her to another tank?
Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Is she only or is there a male in with her? I know when preparing to breed clownfish will prepare nesting sites by cleaning them vigorously and often will prepare more then one before deciding which suites their purposes better. In fact, according to Joyce Wilkerson "Clownfishes", sometimes the female will prepare a site and the male will prefer another.

If she's alone then I don't know what may be causing it.

Thanks for the reply White-Oueen.
She is not paired up with a mate and there are no other clown fish in the tank at all.
It's interesting to watch and I wouldn't mind that she does it except that it could potentially harm the efficientcy of the DSB and ofcourse the SD sand gets all over my LR.

i am in the same boat. i have a 3-4" maroon clown, only clown in tank. i have the clown in a 30 gallon with a DSB and the fish sways its tail and tosses the sand everywhere. in the 30 gallon i have that natures ocean "live bacteria" sand and its bigger then the HD sand, when the fish does its thing the sand clouds up but all falls right back down. i am really concerned about moving this fish into a new tank i have set up with a 6" DSB of HD sand, this stuff clouds up the tank for a few hours when i move the rocks around, so whats gonna happen when the clown does its thing?

This is just something large female clowns are going to do, regardless of whether they have a mate or not. It can be quite annoying with oolitic sand as it gets all over everything, and clouds the water.. but it's not going to crash or spike your tank from disruption of the DSB.. my maroon does it all the time.

My large maroon did the same thing, and there is really nothing you can do to avoid it. They are really annoying fish but most people who have them love them. Just wait until your starts to push pieces of live rock around. Mine would routinely seek out the smaller pieces and literally knock them off the rock wall onto the bottom of the tank. fun to watch but I was always worried about a piece hitting the glass and breaking it. I also have a big maroon and he (I know, really a she) used to dig constantly until I got a bubble tip. Now he plays in the anemone instead of the DSB.

I'm not saying that you should get a BTA though.
