Are you using the Rio pump that came with it? If you are, replace it with a Maxi Jet 1200. Rios are very noisy, besides the MJ will increase the performance of the skimmer. There is some noise from the venturi jet, but other skimmers make a lot more. After a while it will subside some.

Are there any skimmers that don't make so much noise? My tank is in my living room, and skimmer noise drives me crazy. [I use a hang on]

I JUST RECIEVED A REMORA FRIDAY HOOKED IT UP TODAY AND WAS WONDERING IF IT IS SUPPOSED TO SOUND LIKE A TOILET CONSTANTLY RUNNING? I CAN DEAL WITH IT JUST WONDERING IF IT HAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH IT..

hey Greg..I did do the upgrade to go to mj 1200. I will just have to get used to the noise. It is a great skimmer already pulling alot of nasty muck out. thank you for your reply

I had a 46g bowfront setup in a living room with a Remora Pro w/ a Maxijet 1200. It was too loud for me so I placed the unit on a timer. I would have the skimmer turn off during the evening hours.. For example from 6pm to 10pm it would be off.

Just an idea.

I put a mj1200 on mine and it quieted tremendously. I actually have mine in the sump now since I put in the sump after buying the Remora. The RIO 600 is a noisy piece of crap. Mine started making popping sounds too. It's in a dump somewhere.

I've had mine running for a month now. It quieted somewhat after a while. I have the MJ version. BTW, it works great!

Still, can't believe the noise would be that bothersome, it's barely noticable. Heck I'm use to a 200g with MD-5's, chiller, 3 skimmers, two massive overflows, ... love the sound!
