Picked up a Hippo tang Thursday night! (1 only) It's a great fish, personality similar to my foxface - nothing and no other fishes' 'threats" faze it. (him/her) No sign of ich. My LFS has had it for about 3 weeks and it's about 4 inches total length. Started eating the next morning right along with everyone else.

What - no quarantine??

No. I thought that since my LFS has already kept and fed it for three weeks in the UV filtered water it posed no danger to my system.
It's got lots of freckles, too.
The only fish that was aggressive to it was the Kole tang, and that lasted for less than a minute.

I agree, the hippo is great. I bought one almost 2 months ago after agonizing over the ich magnet reports for a while. I bought a baby (maybe quarter size) hippo that looked very healthy. When I put it in my tank he hit the water and ran right up to all the other fish like "hey guys I'm benny the new guy in town want to be my friend." Haven't had a problem since, no ich (knock on wood) eats everything I put in the tank, growing like a week and big and fat. Very happy with the hippo.

Carpentereef.
Please consider feeding the tang garlic soaked food for a while to thwart the possibility of ich. As you are aware, the Hippo is prone to ich so the garlic treatment is good insurance.
I don't quarantine new fish but do the garlic thing. No fish loss for since I started doing this.

Use it for 10 days as the only food.
You can buy the garlic extract at a health food store or in some supermarkets.(CDN$20.00) Make sure that it is pure and contains no flavouring like paprika.
I have convinced myself that waiting to buy a perfect healthy eating fish and the garlic treatment is better than the stress created by a freshwater dip, chemicals like copper or a temporary QT (quarantine tank). If I get busy, the water quality in the QT goes down.
