Is this any good? im about to place an order for other things with petwarehouse and im wondering if i should include marine snow. I have some briarium that might like something like that. I feed DT's right now but im thinking the briarium would like something bigger in size. thanks in advance

It received a bad rap a few months ago when it tested out (independent labs) to have the consistency of tap water. There was an appology issued but I have not heard anything more in reference to fixing the problem.

Guy -

Actually that was Combi-San.

Mike02 -

Marine Snow is a mix of dead phytoplankton and marine lipids and fatty acids. We did some long term tests and found it to be useful for mucus feeding corals.

Although Marine Snow is clumped into larger particles than DT's, it's not significantly larger. If you want something your corals can really "get ahold of" then I would target feed frozen daphnia or brine shrimp.

Check my post on this thread for more info.

****Actually that was Combi-San..******

I missed the discusion on Combi-san. I've been using it for years, but not having used anything else I've nothing to compare it to. My corals seem to have always been happy and healthy, except at the begining when I made some stupid mistakes.

Are there other products out there that people are happier with?

No one was necassarily unhappy with Combi-San as a product or the effects it had on any tanks, it's just that there's not much in it. Certainly not as much as the analysis on the bottle indicated.

If you have great results then you probably don't need to add a lot of trace elements. Between salt mix, foods, and supplements most people grossly overdose on trace elements.

The analyses done on Combi-San are online at our web site: http://inlandreef.com/analysis.html. The "TLF" numbers are what used to be printed on the bottle.

Guy,

You can edit your post to delete it or blank it out.

I used Marine Snow. The first batch I bought was "sour" so Sprung mailed me another bottle for free.

I honestly couldn't say it did any good to my tank, but then neither can I say that DT's (both the original and concentrated versions) did any good either. I couldn't tell.

I occasionly feed frozed daphnia since you can actually *see* the polyps closing in on these guys.

Which LFS is that?

The Aquarium in Concord. It's right off the Willow Pass exit on 680. They have 5 gal refillable containers for sale too. They're nice heavey duty plastic with handles, but they're a bit expensive.I think you could do better at Target and rubbermaid but take a look and see what ya think. If you want prices drop me a privite note.

They also sell RO water if ya need it.

Matt-

That might explain way my corals seemed to look a bit "tired" before my weekly chemical fix comes 'round. After the weekly addition of Combi-San they would perk right up and stay that way for about 3 to 4 days. I didn't want to dose more out of fear of toxicity. Other than Ca+ this is the only chemical I add. Do you think I need to start considering additional supplements or replacing the Combi-san? My LFS is trying like mad to get me buy some Black
Powder, but I've already read the threads on that.

As to water changes I'm very lucky. My LFS has a contract with a company that filters water from Monterey Bay. So all water changes are with fresh ocean water. You can't get more natural than that!
