First... that thing is ugly. Second... what you do think that guy does with claws that big?("lots of damage" might be a good answer, to what, I don't know)

Anyway, I've always taken out anything suspicious, just in case...

Bet that was cool to watch!

Got the e-mail. Thanks.

Aside from being ugly, that crab has some NASTY looking claws. I decided long ago that anything with serrated claws is not welcome in my Reef. Too much possibility of it attacking the critters I WANT in my tank.

Its is difficult to "dispose" of an unwanted creature such as this who is only doing what what Nature selected him to do and had the misfortune to be in the wrong place.....
I can not "flush" any living thing from my tank and try to at least put in back in the food chain as some one else did.
I fed a mantis to the triggers at the LFS.

Cindy W. I sent you mail on how to do that

Another good rule to live by. You wanted a reef, you got one

Some stuff is good and some stuff is bad. Get rid of that little so and so. That is your reef not his hahahah. Thought I was gonna go tree hugger on you didn't you? haha. I don't think I have flushed anything yet but I have epoxied a mantis in his hole / tomb. I tried to catch the little bugger first but no good. Hope you can catch him.

Aww well, He did not show himself last night! I was watching the tank this morning and a Green chromis is GONE! and another green chromis looks like he was attacked by something (Big gash on one side). This Monster WILL PAY! Hopefully he will show me his new hiding spot tonight so I can set my trap and hopefully have some carb legs tomorrow!

check this guy out. he was living in my 65 reef for a year or so. i just got him out by removing the LR he was on and flushing him out with freshwater.

found both of my emerald crabs shells - no legs and I have an idea that this guy did it. His pinchers are serrated with black tips.

Well, someone mentioned tree hugging in this thread... so if that's your bent, uh, then don't continue reading.

I dread posting this because of the response I think I'll get, but here goes...
We HAD a beautiful orange cauliflower coral. One morning, it was halfway in the rock, and half devoured. Well!! Turns out we had a hitchiker crab in our over 250lbs of LR and it was in there munching on the coral. With all the nooks and crannies in the rock, we couldnt' get at the crab quickly enough to catch it. Sooo, we cornered it in a hole, pulled out the rock and hit it with boiling water (just a little bit, using a syringe to direct the water at it). After that, we went on a nightly hunt and found 2 or 3 other crabs that escaped our fresh water dips of the rock and manual picking over. The syringe trick worked on them and provided we were CAREFUL or pulled the rock out and did this, it didn't impact any of our other life. These were 1 to 1.5 inch box crabs, brown and black. Don't know if the size of yours would allow you to do this. Trapping should work, but it seems how you deal with this depends on how patient you are and on what your options are after you catch it the thing.

Had a similar fellow sneak in amongst live rock. He didn't seem to bother the fish but watched him eat snails. Several in fact as he kept his rear legs attached to the rock and moved quicker then I did. The one I saw also had hairy legs and at least one good size claw. He/she would also periodically plow sand around his rock and make ditches. Never did figure out why.
Finally boiled him

Felt bad but I couldnt think of any other way to get him out of the tank as the silly git wouldnt leave the rock even if I kept it out of the water for a while.
