Well the new tank is finally plumbed and full of water even if it is only fresh water to test out the plumbing!

No bubbles to speak off, but the sucker is LOUD! I guess with 6,000 gph going through it, it can't be perfectly quiet but hopefully I will be able to quiet it down some.

I've got a few tricks to try tonight, but if they don't work I may be back tommorrow looking for suggestions!

I set up a page on my plumbing. Here is the link:

Nathan, real nice job! I have been using 1/2" swirls for some time and love them. I recently added a 1" swirl and find it to loud for my taste, what do you think about yours so far?

The new 1" Sea Swirls are using a "New Larger Motor" and are audible. I have one swirl that I got used and you can't hear it at all but the others are brand new and make a decent amount of noise.
But right now with 6,000gph of water flow in the system I can't hear them over the water moving around so maybe not a big deal. Still working on quieting everything else down so maybe I can hear the swirls running again.

Npaden,

I would be willing to bet some doors and sides on your stand would be the most significant noise reduction you could make.

Even just to try it,place something across the front of the stand to test it.

Ryddo,
The tank is 415 gallons. Dimensions are 122"X28"X28".
I intend to enclose the stand and put a canopy on the tank and am assuming that will cut down on the noise, but I also am trying to cut down on as much noise as possible first. The noisiest thing right now is the waterfall going from my refugium to my sump compartment. I think I am going to put an eggcrate shelf with some sponges on it or something to break the drop and hopefully quiet it down some.
I hope to make the canopy this weekend.

Outstanding tank and return setup. I am very jealous.

About the 1 inch seaswirl, if you run fans at all it covers the noise of the seaswirl. Not too bad at all. If it is in your bedroom though, it may drive you insane.

Awesome!

Is it possible to put in a glass or acrylic ramp for the water to slide down from the refugium to the sump. This may stop the splashing noise and reduce salt spray.

Fantastic! Looks like a kicking system! I don't envy your RO/DI unit when it finally comes time to fill it with real water!

SPS, I did see a thread a month or so ago, which talked about the 1" SeaSwirl being noisy. I think SeaSwirl had a bad batch or something to do with the more powerful motor on these units. If it was a bad batch you might be able to get SeaSwirl to replace it for you.
