I am in the market for a chiller and am not sure whether I should get a dual or single stage controller.

I already am using a medusa single stage controller for my heater. Would a dual stage controller provide better temperature control than a second single stage controller?

Thanks for your input.

Get a dual controller. This way in case of a malfunction in one of the controllers you won't have the the chiller and heater active at the same time. The was I see it, having 2 controllers is like driving a car using one foot for the gas and the other for the brake.

Does your fish room gets cold that you need a controller for the heater? The dual stage controller does eliminate the possibility of having both the chiller and heater on at the same time, provided the controller does not malfunction itself. However, in my case where my heater was never on 365 days a year. My lights provides enough heat on its own that all I need is a single stage controller for the chiller.

Are you sure you need a chiller in San Francisco?

Why not sell your Medusa, save the money you would've spent on a second temp. controller, and pull the trigger and buy an AquaController or Octopus? It's definitely worth the money in the long run.

Of course, it will control both your chiller and heater, and will control your lights, pumps, and everything else you hook up to it.
