HQI @ HD

Has anyone ever used the HQI's hrom HD that are 'security' lights? They have em in 150 and 250 watts? Does anyone know what Kelvin temp they are? I will call monday and check with them. If used are thesee really REALLY HOT? Hotter than MH's

i would be worried about the spectrum of the bulb and amount of u.v.

I am pretty sure you are referring to quartz halogen. These are pretty yellow lights, probably in the 3K range, but I have heard of some people who have used them as supplemental lighting. Might work over a refugium or similar. They do get pretty hot as well.

Not sure which ones you are looking at, but the 150W and 250W security lights at my local HD are halogen, not HQI.

And no, you can't use halogen. Color temp is about 2300K.

Are you sure they are HQI or Quartz I was thinking the same thing but don't think you can you put an HQI bulb in them. I am looking for industrial (inexpensive) HQI lights though.
