I received my electrical budget adjustment, and wow am I in the hole.
A little background. I purchased my home from an old lady, who lived here by herself. My wife, son, and I moved in, in July. I had a smaller reef, when I moved in. I started a 120 gallon reef at the end of December. I moved from PC lighting on the smaller reef to 250w MH/VHO combination running on Tar ballasts with my sump in the basement with the return running on a MAG 2400 pump.
I know our consumption as a baseline would be greater than a little old lady, however we did see an increase in usage once the reef was installed.
Are there any numbers that I can use to justify the move from a Tar ballast to an electronic ballast, and from the Mag pump, to a more energy efficient model. I would need to cost justify the move to the new gear, when the old gear is less than a year old.
