Hey all,

I got a Colt coral from a LFS about 8 weeks ago and it is doing very well.....has greatly expanded and is spreading to adjacent live rock. My only concern is, due to how wide open and expanded it is, the very top 'branches' are just under the water line (about 5 cm or so) and are bleaching a bit.....could this be from getting burned from too much light? I have 4 4 ft VHO...3 white and 1 actinic

The rest of the branches are fine...just bleaching of the tips (5mm or so) of the 3 or 4 areas closest to the light...

Thanks

Pat

i have a colt coral about a little over a foot tall i had to make cuttings of the top branches because of the same problem, they did fine after i moved them to the bottom of the tank. i believe the lights are too bright so close to the surface for colts. they do fine in lower light levels.

Because of their excessive slime coat, It's close to impossible to "glue" them. Smaller cuttings can be placed in a 1/2" PVC section filled with gravel, wait for them to attach to the gravels. Larger cutting can be pegged with toothpick into a plug.

What I usually do is take 2 small pieces of rubble and place the cutting between the rocks and hold it together with a rubberband for about a week. then you can remove the rubberband.Be sure to cut a big enough peice it will shrink a whole lot and also make alot of slime.Good luck

quick question - I've cut my colt several times and the frags are healthy. I'm trying various methods of attaching them to LR. My question is: when they attach, does it have to be at the end which was cut or will it attach anywhere it touches the rock?

Thanks,
Murphy
