There are little mini-reviews of the ones we recommend on our web site at http://www.inlandreef.net/books.html.

Yes, they are for sale through Amazon, but just read our comments - i.e., this is not a sales pitch.

Also, the web page doesn't list "Corals" by Eric Borneman, but it's an even better coral care guide than The Modern Reef Aquarium, Vol 2.

My favorites are:
The Conscientious Marine Aquarist by Robert Fenner
Natural Reef Aquariums by John Tullock
The Reef Aquarium, Vol. 1 by Charles Delbeek and Julian Sprung
Aquarium Corals: Selection, Husbandry, and Natural History by Eric Borneman.

All of these have a wealth of good current information. I highly recommend all of them.

I just finished reading bob fenner's "The Conscientious Marine Aquarist" and Michael Paletta's "The new marine aquarium". I would highly reccomend them to anyone.

I would certainly add Y.I. Sorokin's "Coral reef ecology" to that list!

I think every "advanced" reef aquarium owner should read Sorokin's book.

If you are looking specifically for information on clownfish, then Joyce Wilkerson's Clownfishes is a good reference book. She does discuss their host anemones and how difficult the anemones are to maintain in a tank.

Enjoyable reading.

I know everyone considers The REEF Aquarium Vol. 1 to be the "bible" of reef tanks, but after reading it, i felt i had learned very little additionl information. I had already purchased and read The Conscientious Marine Aquariust by Fenner. I learned everything from this book. It is also much cheaper and more up to date. The Reef Aquarium Vol. 1 is a good book, but since it was written in 1992, there are more than a few newer things missing; i.e., Compact Flourescents, Venturi skimmers, etc. While this book does an excellent job of covering inverts, there is no section on fish. IMHO, if you could only purchase one book on Reef Keeping, get Fenners, THe Conscientious Marine Aquarist.

If you don't mind mail order, these books are available from amazon.com or most of the MO aquarium supply stores.

Matt,

Mail order is usually the cheapest source, but if you go to the Reefing the Australian Way board at ozreef.org there was a recent post re some bargains at the moment, eg the Delbeek & Sprungs Reef books, vols 1 & 2 for A$110.00 each from a source in Campbelltown, Sydney. They are often well over $200.00 each at most LFS and even mail order from Amazon, USA will work out to around A$180.00 each.
