Squeeeez,

How much is shipping on the discount RO units? You also have to consider the few extra dollars he charges will hopefully result in quality stock for you to buy and it keeps his doors open.

Now if it was 100+ then I would say buy the discount MO unit.

Or take in MO price and cost of shipping and see if he will knock off 10 bucks for you.

It's a great idea to try to meet your budget. I did that in the beginning too. However, if you buy second and third tier equipment, you will end up spending twice as much in the long run once you realize that the equipment you have isn't doing the job and the only solution is buy the best equipment.

Just $.00000003 of advice

I forgot, nice bombshell on your web page. Schwing

Where is Ocean Reef?

I'm in Fort Lauderdale, but have never seen this shop. I checked anywho.com, but could only find Ocean Reef in Daytona Beach, and I don't have a phone book handy right now.

Just when I thought I knew all of my LFS, I find out about another one...

Thanks for the replies. They don't have a website. They are on Commercial just east of Dixie behind Burger King. Kind of like a warehouse, but they have healthy animals and are fairly knowledgeable. I think I'll buy the RO there.

There are no clear canisters hanging down, rather they have 3 in parrallel. He says this is the way all RO units will look soon, and that it is a much better design.

hi.
Sounds to me is an effort to make sure you will get a "custom" prefilters some where down the road. Sorry for being such a cynic, but make sure you can use regular prefilter and carbon block filter available everywhere on thise "better" designs. If they are not compatible, ask them where you can get the filter, and how much.

Squeez:

Thanks for the directions, that place is about 5 minutes from my office! (looks like I might have to take an 'extended' lunch break)

Sorry to get off-topic, but how's your experience been with them? I deal mainly with Marine Life Designs in Deerfield Beach. Their prices are a bit high, but they always have what I'm looking for, and the staff is mostly knowledgeable.

I was looking for something a little closer to home, and if this place is good, it would be perfect for me.

Steve at Ocean Reef in Ft. Lauderdale showed me the new RO units he's been selling. These units are different than any other. The canisters all look like the top canister on any 3-5stage. There are no clear canisters hanging down, rather they have 3 in parrallel. He says this is the way all RO units will look soon, and that it is a much better design.
Due to the fact that he treats me so well, I have decided that it may not be a great idea to tell him I can get a 3 stage for 40 dollars less than his unit. He knows I am shopping for one, and although I trust him, I would like to know if any of you have seen any newer RO units that fit this description. I almost bought a used one, but he told me if they are not kept moist, the RO membrane is likely brittle.
I want to spend my money at his store, but I am already at $400.00 on tank, plumbing, pump, DIY hood. I would like to not exceed $1400 in initial setup. His RO is $180.00 competitors, $135-149.00.
This guy answers my questions, high integrity guy........If you are in Florida, please visit Ocean Reef
