have a glass top on my 29 g w/ canopy, and i was wondering if i should use something else unsted, the reason why i ask is beacuse it seems like my lights dont penetrate thru the glass very well, specialy when the glass hass white saltwater particules on it and that black strip in the middle of the glass cover. i would like to know if there is other material that can be used to get the full effect of the lights, without the hassle of cleanning the glass cover every day, and wondering if enough light is reaching the animals.

My lighting setup is

CSL 2x65 1 10000K Ultra Daylight and 1 7100 Ultra Actinic.

Thanks

How hot does your glass top get? The reason I ask is before I changed my light setup to hanging from the ceiling, I used to have glass top too. To ease myself on the cleaning chore, I apply a coat of microwaveable saran wrap on the down side where the water sprays. When I see there are too much salt sprays, I remove that layer and apply a new layer.

Thats a JIM DANdy of an Idea. I wish I would have thought of that one before investing in a 10 inch canopy

I also have a suspended light but run topless

WE are building our canopy this weekend and planning to go topless. If the evaporation rate increases too much we will put plexiglass where the glass was. We don't have any livestock that likes to jump from the tank....make sure you keep that in mind. HTH Good luck

The reason plexi glass is better is that it does not have any color to it. Glass has a green tinge to it and will distort the color of your light. Unless you use starfire glass.
