I bought my first mushroom yesterday, and it was attached to a few snail shells, when i place it in the spot i want it to be, should i remove the shells, and let it attach to the LR, or leave attached to the empty shells.

It has already fallen off once...thanks

So the srooms fell off the shells? if they didnt, leave them on the shells, if they did fall off, them try to glue/stick them on to LR, or back on the shells.

No they are still on the shells, i was just wondering if i can remove them. So that i can position the Shroom where i want it.

so its not wise to disturb it if its already attached?

well, actually you can cut them out of the shell. In the mather of fact, you can cut them into tiny peaces and they will grow back also... but worm is right... it take a longgggggggggg time for them to stick back. if you have a strong water current.. or some fish that like to play near the lf..... i might wanna leave them at thier place if it really doesn't effect much.

TopNotch,
I agree with my brother worm, leave the mushroom attached to the shell. Either jam the shell into a spot you like, or glue w/aquarium epoxy or super glue gel. If it takes and begins to thrive, it will spread to surrounding LR, or even further, as new heads will often detach, roll around the tank for awhile and then attach someplace they like [even if you can't see it].

It can be a real pain in the ass to get shrooms to reattach. I'd leave it be if at all possible.

It's Super Glue Gel [cyanoacrylate]. Keep it in the freezer to make it easier to work with. Apply rather thickly and hold for around 15-30 seconds. If possible, do this out of the water with the rock pieces as dry as possible.

If you have a dremel you could quickly grind the edges of the shell down almost to the stalk of the shroom and then glue the new shell base anywhere you like. That way you wont have to look at an entire shell pasted to the side of your rock.

They'll spread quickly once established. You can place bits of reef rubble around it onto which it can spread. Then you can place the new head where you like.

Shrooms;
You can keep them out of water for quite a while, don't let them dry out tho. We take some water out of the tank in a bowl. while working on them, if you want you can drip some tank water from the bowl on them if they look a little dry. We have a cut off diamond blade on a dremel tool and also a angle grinder with a diamond blade that we can cut into the rock they are on under them taking them and a small piece of rock that they are attached to and super glue it to another piece of base rock. This is good because you can share the price of the shroom rock with several others and split them up right then. We also have a frag tank with pieces of shells covering the bottom that we can drop cut pieces into (even very small ones) and when they attach to a piece of shell we super glue them on a rock or even on the back tank glass. You can make multiple shroom rocks and use them for trading to your LFS. We have made rocks up this way with as many as 7 or 8 kinds of shrooms. The LFS can get as much as 70 or 80 dollars here in our neck of the woods for them. We get half of what the LFS sells them for as trade or cash. It's a good deal for consumers as they can get quite a few different kinds on the same rock and the price is actually cheaper than buying them separate on different rocks. It also saves space in your tank if that is a problem. We also glue several of the same kind on rocks too. Most LFS will take all you have. You all take care, Terry

The mushroom is doing great, (ive only had it for 3 days) It is about 3" in diameter when its open, it seems to shrink alot at night. And with my 50/50 6000/Actinic NO floro, it is really glowing green.

Do they grow & multiply fast?
