OK, now what the hell is this thing! Pics attached (I hope)

I awoke this morning to find this "thing" attached, by a long string of mucus to my live rock. I only found one and I have NEVER seen this before.

attached find some pics of "IT". It looks like some sort of cocoon, but to what I do not know. Please help. Thanks

thank you for your reply Chucker, I do have a Vermetid snail in my tank it came attached to my Elagance coral and it is indeed in that area. My dilema is what the hell is caught in his web of mucus? It looks like a cocoon of some sort with spines running down the middle of it. I have never seen anything quite like it.
