So red/rose its unnatural. I have it on hold but am having a hard time beliving that a colt could be this brilliant of a color. Almost like it was spray painted. All the pollops are out and open and it is firmly attached. Any insight before I drop 69 bucks? Thanks Stan

Yeah, this despicable practice has been increasing lately.. various softies and LPS are being died funky colors.. some of them die after a few weeks due to bleaching from the dye.. some of them regain their original color as the dye wears off. Don't buy it.

Could also be a carnation coral. I have seen a few carnation's for sale as a rose colt or an orange colt.

There is a LFS here that has a sign warning people about the dyed corals in other stores saying beware. I haven't come across any but have heard of them a few times. This dealer refuses to carry anything like that. I think I would avoid it.

Neal:
colored glass fish are actually injected w/ a needle, and floursecent colors are injected into their bodies.
I suspect that these artifically colored corals are dyed w/ a food coloring type die.
Its unclear how this coloration effects them long term, does it filter out light?
Dunno....
this practice has gotta stop

We got some cabbage leathers a while back that had been seriously dyed red. We also got some yellow pagoda and recently some yellow goniopora. At first we thought the pagodas were the best thing since sliced bread, wow we thought, a new variety! Well after month or 2 they all lost their color in our customers tanks all turned brown except one turned green. I believe there is still one out there that is still yellow but who knows. When we asked the guy if the stuff was dyed he just laughed.... Needless to say we odn't do business w/ him anymore.

There is a species of yellow pagoda or cup (turbinaria) coral and are commonly referred to as scroll coral. They have much smaller polyps than the common pagoda or cup corals, and they sometimes have an orangeish/brown tint to them. They are not dyed, I had several frags for years that maintained an orangey yellow color, and then I gave them away when I went fish only for a while, and they faded away in my friend's tank.

Recently visited a LFS here and found red / purple sinularia, screaming yellow pagoda, goniapora and hairy mushrooms. I told the owner I thought it was BS and told him if he continued to order it or get it in, customers who are seriously into the hobby would begin shopping elsewhere. I think this whole new trend is already out of control!

FWIW, the yellow pagodas showing up are definitely not yellow scroll.. they are the regular species of pagoda dyed very yellow.. definitely NOT natural.
