I see that this unit comes with a "high-limit level control" is this some kind of float switch that shuts the unit off when the level gets where you want it?

Yes. You can either set the meterliter to add a specific amount per day or use it with the float switch. It will let the water change close to an inch before adding. I don't use the switch because I don't have a sump and the fluctuation in the main tank would be more than I want.

Hi Mark,

I've been using one of these for the past couple of years. The "float switch" is just a hollow open ended tube that you can connect to the litermeter by air tubing. You place it at whatever level your sump normally is and when the water level rises 2" above the open end of the tube the doser is shut off. When the water drops 1" above the end of the tube the doser is turned back on. Spectrapure claims that it is primarily for high level control to assure that the unit shuts off when the proper sump level is exceeded. I don't use it any more as the unit works well at holding your sump level once you get it tuned to your average daiily replacement. It's a nice heavy duty unit that has worked flawlessly for me since I hooked it up.

Thanks guys, I have flooded the tank room 3 times in the past 5 weeks due to me being an idiot

I would rather use a pump that adds water slowly then one that adds 200 gph.

Let me ask you another question. Will a snail or other critter be able to fail the switch? I think I'll use the liter meter with both float switches. I also have a Sipedone float switch......

Mark,

The litermeter works in such a way that it only doses about every 10 minutes. The amount dosed is dialed in by you on the digital contols. When its not dosing the unit is on but nothing is happening. Thus every 10 minutes you hear it start pumping for about 30 seconds. Then is stops pumping and sits there for another 10 minutes. Even during pumping its very quiet. Unless the litermeter somehow malfuntioned and kept pumping all the time you won't have any problems with or without a float switch. To answer your question about a snail screwing up the level control I would have to say that I suppose it could happen if a snail somehow lodged itself tightlly in the open end of the tube but it would probably have to do so in a manner that stopped water from entering and leaving the tube. I'd say the chances of this happening would be very slim but possible.
